Following text from the National Portrait Gallery: "McBean is photographed holding the mask he made for Ivor Novello in the "Happy Hypocrite", (1936). The photographer Pete Smith was commisioned to take this photograph by Arts East magazine and this was the second time he met Angus McBean."
